| 6 The Espoo-Vantaa Polytechnic Language Learning Programme |

The aim of the Espoo-Vantaa Polytechnic Language Learning Programme is to provide the students with language learning opportunities that enable them to use several languages as natural tools in their future profession in international and multicultural settings. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to build on a solid learning package of basic knowledge and skills in the chosen languages. The aims can be reached in various ways. However, the goals are the same for all languages provided in the Programme and in all fields of study: The student can manage any typical customer service situation within his/her own field of study The student can use the terminology of his/her own field of study The qualifications that will be obtained through the Programme are: Communication skills Cultural awareness and sensitivity Active interest in maintaining and developing one's linguistic skills The student reaches a level that is sufficient for international functions in his/her profession The student can follow the development of his/her professional field in the chosen language(s). For students who study for a full Polytechnic Degree at the Espoo-Vantaa Polytechnic, it is compulsory to study English ad Swedish (or Finnish, for native speakers of Swedish). Exceptions can be made with native speakers. The minimum scope of languages studies in any Degree Programme is 3 ECTS credits English, 3 ECTS credits Swedish and 3 ECTS credits content studies in a foreign language. This is only the minimum level, and for example, in business studies the requirement is much higher. |
