8 Studies in Business

8.1 OBJECTIVE

The Programme offers the student a learning process that combines theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The student develops valuable skills through experience in our learning approaches, an ability to work independently and in teams, and to effectively take initiative. The students will be able to draw upon these assets in their future career activities.

The growing process will lead the student on a path of development towards being a professional with competencies in planning, operating and developing business operations both domestically and internationally. Entrepreneurial and supervisory skills are essential areas of focus for the students, who will be capable of contributing to company development throughout the firm's life cycle.

8.2 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The professional development of the student takes place in stages through the sequence of Basic Studies, the Professional Studies and the chosen Specialisation Studies. The Basic Studies and the Professional Studies consist of larger Study Entities covering specific areas. These larger Study Entities are then broken into a number of Courses.
In the Programme, the most meaningful learning methods and learning environments are applied to achieve the desired results. The student's professional development is projected
against the different phases in the life cycle of an organisation.

The guiding principle is that Year One covers, in particular, the initial phases of the organisation, whereas Years Two and Three emphasise change and development in the organisation. During the Specialisation Studies and Thesis Project, the student further expands on the required skills and is in a position to establish a specific career profile.

During the first year of study the student acquires skills as a performer in varied types of organisations.

During the second year of study the student acquires skills to analyse and plan functions of varied types of organisations, thus moving on from mastering individual tasks to more overall understanding of the operations of the organisation.

During the third year of study the student acquires skills that relate to tasks and situations requiring ability to face change, to promote change, to influence change
and to develop operations. The second Job Placement and the Thesis further lend themselves to reach these goals.
