12.4.0.1 Multicultural Aspects of Social and Health Care 18 ECTS Credits
The teachers and students of this module come from several countries
representing different cultures and thus offering possibilities to discuss and reflect
similarities and differences at the level of policy making, organisations, education
and practice.

EC 7114 Social and Health Care in Finland
Objectives
The student is aware of the Finnish social and health care system
in the context of national and international health policy. He/she
recognizes differences and similarities in the social and health care
systems compared to his/her own country.
Content
Global and national trends in health issues, social and health policy. The Finnish
social and health care system, regulations, organisations and
services.
Prerequisites
Students will be accepted from various fields of study
Methods
Self-directed preparatory assignment, lectures, study visits, group
work, seminars, individual tutorial support.
Assessment Written report, oral presentation.

EC 7115 Methods of Health Promotion and Health Education
Objectives
The student is able to plan, implement and evaluate health
education and health promotion activities.
Content
Planning, implementation and evaluation of health education and
health promotion programmes; community analysis, application of
research findings.
Prerequisites
Bachelor of nursing or bachelor of social work students.
Methods
Lectures, study visits, group work, seminars, individual tutorial
support.
Assessment
Analysis of a health promotion/health education/patient teaching
strategy relevant to the student's clinical placement.

EC 7116 Social and Health Care in Cultural Perspective
Objectives
The student enhances his/her cultural awareness, and professional
knowledge and skills in multicultural issues.
Content
Social and health problems in different cultures; transcultural
nursing, professional values in cultural perspective
Prerequisites
Bachelor of nursing or bachelor of social work students.
Methods
Lectures, study visits, group work, seminars, individual tutorial
support.
Assessment Written report, oral presentation.

EC 7117 Current Issues in Infection Control
Objectives
The student is aware of the current challenges in infection control in
social and health care. He/she understands the importance of the
unbroken co-operation against nosocomial and community-aquired
infections during the clientÕs / patient's health care process.
He/she understands the keynotes of the infection control policy in
collaboration with primary and secondary levels of health care and is
able to follow this policy during his/her clinical practice in Finnish
health/ social care organizations.
Content
Definitions of infection, the principles of infection control and
universal precautions against hospital or personnel aquired
infections.
Prerequisites
Bachelor of nursing or bachelor of social work students.
Methods Lectures, group work, literature review.
Assessment
Written standards and criteria of universal infection control policy in
the student's own clinical field.
Semester Period 3
Credits 1.5-3 ECTS
 
EC 7118 Clinical Studies in Health and Social Sector
Objectives
To explore different aspects, including experimental ones, of
professional practice. To demonstrate growth and development of
the professional self.
Content
Clinical placements in hospitals, health care centres, voluntary
organisations, experimental projects and/or participation in the
international projects in Russia (St. Petersburg area) or Estonia.
Prerequisites
2-3 year bachelor of nursing or bachelor of social work students.
Methods Individual tutorial support.
Assessment Reflective diary, assessment of practice.
Semester Period 3-4
Credits 6 ECTS
