EG 30 ELECTIVE PROFESSIONAL STUDIES (15 ECTS)
The purpose of elective studies in the curriculum is to broaden and enrich the professional competence of the student as well as to offer the student an opportunity to select areas of study according to his/her personal developmental goals and interests. The Espoo-Vantaa Polytechnic informs the students of the choice of elective studies at the onset of each semester.

 
EF 40 PROFESSIONAL INTENSIVE STUDIES 21 ECTS + 15 ECTS Practice training
The student enriches her/his professional competence as an expert on social field. The studies are based on her/his educational needs. The student is capable of finding new applications of information and communication technology and is able to apply them to her/his work as a professional in social welfare.

EF 82 RESEARCH WORK AND MATURITY TEST (15 ECTS)
The research work affords the student the opportunity to enrich his/her professional competence, to develop his/her skills in learning and evaluation as well as in communication and cooperative efforts. At the same time the student is applying his/her professional skills and knowledge in independent work and in groupwork and is establishing the groundwork for personal professional development.

Through the research work the student or student group experiences the analytical and developmental approach to work in the process of examination and analysis as well as of planning and development, or as a part of development of working life.

The research work is regarded as a long-term process which incorporates information acquisition, analysis and reflection. The student receives guidance and feedback at various stages of the process.

The student is provided with separate instructions and guidelines for the research work and the maturity test. The maturity test consists of a demonstration of overall competence. The research work and maturity test are evaluated separately and assigned separate grades. The research work and maturity test study unit draws from studies in research methods from other study units.

 
EF 7 ELECTIVE STUDIES
Students select studies 10 cr of that support professional growth in the different units of the Espoo-Vantaa Polytechnic. Elective Studies are offered each year during the third period.
