Physiotherapy as a work and a field of expertise is related to rehabilitation. The
position of physiotherapy is defined in the law and regulations of health care,
rehabilitation and social welfare. The importance of physiotherapy will be emphasised
in the future as the mean age and the amount of elderly people are increasing in our
society. The rehabilitation services are directed towards the ever-increasing amount
of clients that have diverse type of functional limitations.

The professional studies consist of three main themes:
- the facility for the work as an expert in physiotherapy 120 ECTS
- the intensive studies in physiotherapy 30 ECTS
- the research and development of the physiotherapy work 15 ECTS

The largest theme field is the facility for the work as an expert in physiotherapy. The
study units from any of these theme fields can be included either in the basic studies
or in the professional studies. One study unit can be beneficial in developing many
different physiotherapy work skills. Theme fields consist of clinical, skill promoting and
elective studies as well as clinical work in the real physiotherapy environment.

 
EF 40 THE FACILITY FOR THE WORK AS AN PHYSIOTHERAPY EXPERT 120 ECTS
Objectives
The student:
-is able to use different assessment methods, theoretical as well as
experience based knowledge, in physiotherapy, in his work and its
development.
-develops skills in communication, reaches professional skill levels
and improves his skills in reflecting upon his own action. The student
should be capable of co-operative action as an expert of
physiotherapy in the multiprofessional rehabilitation and care teams.
-can place his own physiotherapy work as a part of different client-
based rehabilitation services and recognises the importance of the
rehabilitation culture.
-understands that the client is the subject of his own rehabilitation
process.
-reflects upon different ethical premises and their applicability in his
own activity and in developing the expertise as a physiotherapist.
-is competent in physiotherapy methods, is able to assess and
analyse the function of individuals at different age groups and their
movements as a part of their life situation.
-can choose with the client the appropriate methods to guide, to
support and to promote the clients movements and activities.
-is also able to guide a client or a group of clients to monitor their
own actions and movements independently.
-can use different research and information search methods. The
student is also able to use research-, theory- and experience-based
knowledge appropriately to promote the client's well-being, his own
work and himself.
 
EF 400 THE BASIS OF PHYSIOTHERAPY WORK 15 ECTS
Objectives
The student:
-understands the historical foundations of rehabilitation and
physiotherapy. He understands the physiotherapy profession as a
part of societal services that includes guidance, support and
promotion of human action.
-is capable to work in the networks and in the teams of the
rehabilitation culture.
-understands different basis for the philosophical and theoretical
foundations of physiotherapy in his own client-based work.
-understands the importance of client's own action in the
rehabilitation
- and physiotherapy processes and values client's lifestyle.
-recognises his work in marketing good-quality physiotherapy work
and is able to establish a physiotherapy company of good quality if needed.

Objectives
The student:
-can analyse and evaluate function and movement of people with
different ages and with different groups. He learns to choose with
the client a proper way to guide, to support and to promote clients
function and movement. He is able to co-operate with other
experts.
-can guide clients with different ages to monitor the quality of their
doings and to adjust it, if necessary.
- masters the essential methods of physiotherapy and is able to choose the most suitable

The student:

that are required in his field of interest in physiotherapy and is able
to use his abilities to reflect and develop his work.
-recognises different management patterns and can act as an
active and a responsible member of a physiotherapy team. He can
work as a member of multiprofessional team and as an expert of
