Students select studies 10 cr of that support professional growth in the different units of the Espoo - Vantaa Polytechnic. Elective studies are offered each year during the third period.

| 7.2.3.1 EF7017 Work and functional capacity 3 cr |
Objective The student understands, that the working capacity is one part of the professionality. The student is able to take care of his/her working capacity systematically.
Content Physical training, ergomics, mental health as resource.

| 7.2.3.2 EF7020 Massage 2 cr |
Objective The student learns the basics of the classic massage both in theory and practice. Study unit is meant others than physiotherapy students. The participants are presumed to have some knowledge of the anatomy.
Content History of massage, classical massage storkes, indications and contraindications of the massage and including massage of different body parts.

Objective Student is able to help the client die with dignity and support the family with grief.
Content Death and dying in different cultures, providing comfort for the dying client and supporting the family with grief.

Objective To find one’s own creativity, to add communication skills. Previous studies not needed.
Content Various communication situations, roles by sosiodrama technics.

| 7.2.3.5 EF7026 Refugees in Finland 2 cr |
Objective The student recognizes prejudice in him/herself and others and actively aims to avoid stereotyping and policies of exclusion. The student practices sensitive enquiry and reasoning skills in articulating contrasting feelings and identify means which aid integration.
Content Topics range from developing an understanding of the history of immigration patterns within Finland, becoming familiar with the terminology relating to Refugee policy, to comprehending the asylum seeking process in Finland, and finally to become sensitive to the problems faced by incomers in integrating in to the social fabric, as well as the services available to them.

| 7.2.3.6 EF7003 The health and wellbeing of people with learning disabiliites 2 cr |
Objective The student understands the multidimensionality of learning disabilities. The student respects and supports the autonomy of individuals with LD and their families, and supports their possibility to live meaningful lives.
Content The different dimensions of LD (educational, spiritual, cultural, psychological and biological). Legislation and social services. Work with families.

| 7.2.3.7 EF7023 First aid and civil defence 1 cr |
Objective The student is able to give useful and effective first aid in different situations and has knowledge of plans for civil defence during state of emergency.
Content Studies and practices according to the Finnish Red Cross recommendations. Visit to the civil defence centre.

| 7.2.3.8 EF7028 Global citizen study programme 2 cr |
Objective The student strengthens his/her personal growth towards the international world and develops his/her ability to discuss the international and development questions.
Content The student works on a chosen theme related to international affairs e.g. health from different aspects, human rights and development, poverty and development, multiculturalism using knowledge from different sources.
