The joint studies at the Espoo-Vantaa Polytechnic are basic studies. They will help the students to perceive and get an idea of changes in society and the role of polytechnic education in a changing society. The basis is the idea of a human being as an active student in different learning surroundings both as an active and an influential person in working life and society.
Objectives The students get an impression of changes in society and the role of the polytechnic. They form a basis for their studies, their expertise, multidisciplinary cooperation, networking, internationalization and develop tools for a researching and a developing attitude to work. They develop their identity as students of the Espoo-Vantaa Polytechnic, become committed to the aim and independent studies. The students realise the meaning of their aims of learning and self-guidance for learning.

Objectives and contents
The students get a general idea of the role of the polytechnic in society. They get to know the Espoo-Vantaa Polytechnic and familiarize themselves with studies at the polytechnic. The students develop their skills to taylor-make their own personal study plans. The students familiarize themselves with the Espoo-Vantaa Polytechnic as a whole, the structure of the education, the guidance and tutoring activities, and the student body activities. The students familiarize themselves with the philosophy of a multidisciplinary polytechnic. They understand the demands of a lifelong learning in a continuously changing society. The students develop an understanding of changes on an international, a national and a working life level. The subjects are the Espoo-Vantaa Polytechnic, its business idea, wide network and multidisciplinarity. The Espoo-Vantaa Polytechnic Students Registered Association, and the structure and operation of its student unions. The demands of a changing society and working life. The changes in a multicultural, internationalized society.
