Justification: Economic success depends on people, processes and technology. Professionals on all fields, whether they are engineering oriented, business, social care or healthcare related must be aware of the importance of the interdependency among the three factors. It is, therefore, important to provide the new professionals on the different fields with the capability to look critically of existing and emerging technologies, their potential usability, their influence on business and industrial processes, on people.
Objectives: It is the main objective of this lecture course to make students of all fields aware of the importance of technology and technology change in the organization, the business and industrial processes, human resources development. It is also an objective to develop in technology-oriented students the awareness for the personal, social and organization impacts of the use of existing or emerging technologies. Finally, it is also an objective of the course on Management of Technology to unveil the need to look at existing technologies and apply them in different environments, organizations and processes.
Contents: The general chapters of the lecture course are: 1. Appraisal of existing and emerging technologies and their relation to different applications; 2. Technology development and usability; 3. Dynamics of technology change; 4. Technology change and process change; 5. Technology and social, organizational and personal changes. 6.Technology and competitive advantage; 7. Technology vision and strategy.
Methodology: The course will be based on the presentation and discussion of case studies appropriate for each of the chapters, with full participation of the students who will receive the documentation beforehand for more deep debate and livid lectures.
Evaluation: The evaluation of the students will be based on: 1. participation in the discussion of the case studies; 2. presentation of a new case study prepared individually at the end of the term
