Justification: The management of organizations requires the study of the present but also the anticipation of the future to come: political, economic and social variations, modifications of the competitive environment, development of new methodologies, new technologies, new products, new services.
No organization can proceed and remain competitive without continuously developing its competences and reinforcing its core knowledge. A direction for development is needed. Evaluate the present conditions and forecast their variations in the future may provide a basis for the discussion of the development of the organisation and provide the alternatives that will enable it to be competitive.
Objectives: It is the main objective of this lecture course to make students aware of the need to think prospectively about organizations. The knowledge of the rationale and the methodologies for presenting alternatives for future development of the organisations may give them a different and more active perspective of the reasons why some organisations fail while others flourish in the economic activities.
Contents: The general contents of this lecture course include methodologies of analysis of the present status of the organizations, their relationships with the stakeholders, the political, legal, social and technological environment, the internal structure an the human resources, the actual matrix of operations, products and services. Methodologies for forecasting developments, determining the critical issues and predicting future changes and needs are then discussed and applied to the level of the single organization to build a strategic statement.
Methodology: The course will be based on the presentation and discussion of case studies appropriate for each of the subjects, with full participation of the students who will receive the documentation beforehand for deeper debate and more livid lectures.
Evaluation: The evaluation of the students will be based on: 1. participation in the discussion of the case studies; 2. presentation of a new case study prepared individually at the end of the term.
