Opintokokonaisuuden tavoite
Opintokokonaisuuden tavoitteena on edistää opiskelijan asiantuntijana toimimisen valmiuksia kansainvälisissä toimintaympäristöissä. Opiskelija vahvistaa viestintävalmiuksiaan, tutustuu vieraisiin kulttuureihin ja monikulttuuriseen toimintaympäristöönsä sekä luo yksilöllisiä opintopolkuja ammattitaitonsa perustaksi.
 
GY7000 Muntlig kommunikation i arbetslivet 3 sp
Mål och innehåll
Studeranden får tillfälle att träna och förbättra sina muntliga kunskaper i svenska för att kunna betjäna kunden bättre i olika situationer som kan uppstå i det mångkulturella arbetslivet.
 
GY7008 Multiculturalism in working life 3 cr
Objectives and Content
Students cover many aspects of life in a multicultural society and therefore the course provides the students with the knowledge and skills to enable them to work in the multicultural working environment.
The course is aimed at providing students with an insight into the meaning of culture and what life a multicultural society is. Through theory, development of practical skills and project work, the students will be able to identify and understand the meanings of racism and multiculturalism as a process in working life.
 
GY7009 Intercultural communication 3 cr
Aims and Content
The aim of this course is to raise the students’ level of awareness of the different in communicative practices in different cultures and what consequences these differences might have in intercultural communication. The course will encourage the students to be critical about stereotypes in the language and thinking. With the help of discussions and role plays, the aim is to activate the students and help them to become effective communicators also in intercultural situations.

The course begins with a short introduction to communication theory. Against this background we look at some culturally differences in communicative practices, both with respect to verbal and nonverbal communication. Some wider cultural typologies will also be discussed, such as the difference between individualistic and collectivistic cultures. We look at what happens when the communicative patterns of two cultures are in conflict, and ponder how such cultural clashes could be prevented with the help of increased communicative skills.
